Login and Security
Use the Right Web Browser
Not all web browsers are created equal! People.ua.edu works well with Chrome or Firefox. Internet Explorer does not work well with elements within the site editor and Safari will often not recognize a user when signing in.
First-Time Login and Password Setting
The first time you log in to your website, you will use your university email and the temporary password provided to you. You will then be prompted to create a new password. Password security is absolutely critical, because you are responsible for the content of your site should your password be discovered or stolen. We strongly recommend including different cases of letters, numbers, symbols (%$@, etc.) while avoiding the use of dictionary words. Do not share passwords or accounts.
Computer Security
Do not leave your computer unlocked while you are away from your desk. Remember to set strong passwords for your computer, not just your people.ua.edu site. OIT offers good information about protecting your computer and selecting passwords.

Public URL
Every site must also have an address (like www.ua.edu for example) so that your visitors can find it. Faculty member websites will contain the bama user id (minus any numbers) plus .people.ua.edu. For example: www.jsmith.people.ua.edu
Lab sites or Center sites may request a unique url ending in .ua.edu. Submit a request at https://stratcomm.ua.edu/urlrequest
